The Assoc. Nationale Franco Britannique – award of the Chevalier Medal
The Association Nationale Franco Britannique was formed in in Paris in 1933 by HRH Duchess of York (soon to become Queen Elizabeth) and French Presidents René Coty and Albert Lebrun. The aim of the award, made to French and British combatants, was to maintain the spirit of the 1904 Entente Cordiale and especially the ties formed between France and Britain during World War One. General De Gaulle continued this during and after World War Two for outstanding combatants, special agents and resistants. Today there are over 26 branches across France and a British group. In parallel with the Allied Forces Heritage Group, its aim is to acknowledge and encourage those who work to maintain the commemoration and history of both world conflicts and promote the Franco British alliance.
